Myrs:
Humanoid beings that live alongside humans. They are magically inclined and oftentimes are believed to be the predecessors of man.
Location and Population:
The population of myrs are equal to that of humans and they reside just about anywhere on Gaea. Hagar tends to have a smaller population of myrs simply because the amount of machinery and man-made contraptions present in the nation. That is not to say that Hagar is completely barren of myrs. Most reside in Hsarus.
Biology:
Myrs look basically the same as humans as their anatomy is very similar. Myrs tend to be lithe and taller than your average human. Their skin is naturally resilient to magics. Because of this, they do not burn from excess sunlight and their skin is always a fair shade. Eye color ranges from brown to yellow. Whenever they cast magic, their eyes glow a brilliant gold. There are males and females in the race but they don't reproduce as much as humans. However, their lifespans are twice as long as humans, averaging around 120-140 years of age. Myrs can mate with humans but their offspring is never a half breed. If the ability to use magic is passed on, the offspring also takes on the skin resiliency and the golden eyes.
Magic exists as a medium of control for the myrs. They use it to draw natural energies from the surrounding environment to create spells. So fire spells cannot be cast in the middle of the ocean unless someone creates a flame or carries a torch. Light spells cannot be cast at night unless artificial light is introduced. Lightning spells cannot be be used indoors, and etcetera. However, if in an area where a large amount of magical energy is available, spell power will increase but fine control over the elements is tossed to the wind. Volcanic environment brings explosive spells. Tidal waves are possible in the middle of the ocean. And so on. Still, over usage of spells will wear out the typical myr. Myrs have the ability to heal but not in the sense as to repair broken bones or close open wounds. They can relieve fatigue and renew energy, reduce pain, mend bruises, even relieve stress and encourage relaxation. Poisons can only be slowed; they cannot cure them without the use of an antidote. However they cannot use this type of magic on themselves as it taps into the myr's own vital energies. Sleep and nourishment replenishes their magical reserves.
It is said that 'black iron', metal that has been produced by man, hampers the magical abilities of myrs. Ingesting black iron can render a myr sick and unable to use magics for a day or more depending on how potent the dose was. Being cut by black iron can be fatal if the wound isn't washed out. Heavy pollution in an area give myrs headaches.
Culture:
Many myrs have integrated with human society and even more have taken a great interest to the technology that man is capable of. Many have shared their magics to aid in the advancement of technology and because of this, they live in virtual harmony with mankind. Of course there have been times when technology and the life of the planet have crossed lines and incited battles from the more conservative of the myrs, but those never scale past minor skirmishes and the main body of the race are peaceful.
As myrs come of age, they undergo a purification ceremony at a natural spring which is said to boost their magical energy and bring them to a closer connection with Gaea. This is purely a cultural festival since age does not dictate the prowess of a myr's magical ability. Experience always brings about more control and practice increases stamina.
Man was believed to have descended from myrs that have traded their magical abilities for craft and smithing.
The greatest family of myrs are called the Ilael. They are all black haired, and golden eyed with virtually magic proof skin. They specialize in only one element and have novice control over others. They are the purebred, the myrs that are bore with immense magical energy and a natural intimacy with the world that allows them to easily control energies at birth. It's rumored that they even have the ability to summon creatures, demons from the depths Purgatory. Long ago, there was a mass genocide of Ilaels due to fear of their tremendous power as well as their devious pacts made with demons. Both common myrs and humans hunted their family down. Any myr that had dark hair and golden eyes were targeted and their family nearly entirely wiped out. As such, Ilaels are extremely rare and supposedly have an hatred of mankind and their machines. They live mostly in isolated places of Gaea and have cut all ties with civilization.
History:
Due to their slow reproduction rate and their lack of physical prowess, almost all myrs dislike war which make them a very peaceful race. Their appearances also allowed them to easily integrate with man and live peacefully besides them since they share a mutually beneficial relationship. That's all.
