Name: Xiao Ren
Nickname: Falsetto the Whisper
Age – 13
Gender – Female
Race – Fey
Rank – Middleweight
Appearance:
Much like her real name suggests, Falsetto is a short Fey. She
stands at 4 ft 6 in and that fact seems to bother her more than she'll
admit. Her hair is bleached white and cut short like a boy's. It's quite
obvious that she had cut her own hair, probably without the aid of a
mirror for uneven ends jut out all over her head. Her skin is also very
pale, almost matching the color of her hair. However, her eyes are a
bright crimson, which has led many people to wonder if she is albino or
not, a question Falsetto has managed to evade since she was born. She
usually wears a full mask over her face, a white slate with a simple
symbol etched on the front with random tufts of hair draping down the
sides of her face, perfectly matching her hair color. She wears what
looks like a vibrant purple robe with deep sleeves. The bottom half of
the robe is raggedly cut to expose her legs, mid thigh and down.
Mismatched socks cover her feet as well as giant six inch blocks of wood
which serve as her sandals. About the only armor on her is a leather
samurai plate strapped rather visibly on her front. Turquoise blue wings
jut from her back, constantly flapping to give her more height.
Personality:
Falsetto is a dramatist by every sense of the word. Falsetto spends
her time flaunting around like a child, lost in personal fantasies. When
wearing her mask and odd samurai outfit, many have thought of her as a
ghost or a spirit frolicking in the material world. She appears rather
harmless and most people let her get away with her trickery simply
because of her innocent and child-like appearance. She may or may not
respond when addressed or perhaps would incorporate people into her
stories in order to answer any pending questions without breaking out of
character. Whether this is a front or not no one knows.
History:
If anyone paid any actual close attention to Falsetto's stories,
anyone would conclude that she must be mentally unstable. Stories could
change from day to day but her main story seems to be about a darkening
world filled with chaos and death. She plays the role of a stricken
heroine who received a mandate from heaven demanding her to right that
which was wronged. She never says what has been wronged or her methods
in going about doing it. However the setting seems different. The world
thrives far too much for her story to be true. She must right that which
is wrong. Her fascination with death is startling. She doesn't appear
to have any family either though most never question where they are.
Weapons:
Cliffhanger:
A needle like dagger with a long blade made for stabbing. The blade
itself is hollow with a small reservoir of liquid inside the handle made
to inject into the victim's blood stream upon stabbing. The liquid is a
slow working hallucinogen which grows worse the longer it remains in
the bloodstream. After a day has passed with no treatment, frontal lobe
functions shut down, parietal and occipital lobes go into overdrive and
permanent mania is induced. She wears this dagger inside of her samurai
plate, concealed from others.(3)
Abilities:
Mystifying Beauty
– Fey are always extraordinarily beautiful. Certainly, not everyone
reacts in the same way to their beauty, though most would find them very
attractive. The Fey's beauty is not supernatural or extra-dimensional;
they only have one appearance, and against a stalwart paladin or a
devoted husband, their beauty would simply be brushed off with a tiny
glance. Against a unruly mercenary, on the other hand, it might
subconsciously provoke certain familiar feelings and lure the individual
to action. (0)
Magical Affinity - The Fey are, like
the Heiyu dark elves, apt with magic. Their specialties typically lean
toward enchantments and curses, and therefore, any such spells that the
Fey can cast last longer and are more potent. More importantly, they
are also resistant to the effects of most non-demonic, non-sacred
enchantment magic, and any such enchantments casted on them will have
their duration and potency reduced. (2)
Fey's Weakness
- Fey dislike cold iron. While iron weapons do only a tiny bit of
extra damage to them per se, a Fey will usually feel uncomfortable when
in close proximity to a cold iron object. Fey also have similar
dislikes for people wearing clothes inside-out, and will avoid running
water and visible four-leaf clovers. Weapons made from Rowan trees and
weapons that are coated with sap/powder from St. John's wort will do
extra damage to them. (-1)
Flight - A Fey can use
her wings to fly. Some Fey have mastered their ability to fly and can
maneuver freely in the sky, while others still rely mainly on gliding
once airborne. The number of points required for this skill varies
depending on their degree of control during flight. Their flight path
is also heavily affected by medium winds, and if their wings are heavily
damaged, they cannot fly at all. (3)
Storyteller –
Falsetto's powers comes from her words. If she removes her mask and
reveals her tongue, one would see the symbol which is etched on her mask
tattooed on her tongue. She simply says a word and the object would
materialize in space. The tattoo would glow red, and if she's wearing
her mask, the symbol on her mask will glow red when she says the word
and for the entire duration that the materialized object is in use.
Falsetto cannot summon complex objects like muskets or houses, only
those that have simple forms and simple compositions. She can summon
them anywhere in space as long as there is nothing between her and her
creation. The three most common ones Falsetto creates are the
projectiles (bullets, arrows, rocks), weapons (close ranged weapons
only), and shields (wall) in which she may only summon one type at a
time (summoning any other category would make the other crumble and
dissipate). Summoning takes approximately less than a second for small
objects, up to ten seconds for large objects.
Projectiles have an
initial attack of 10 but as she summons more the attack is divided by
the number of projectiles she summons. She must shout a trigger word
(fire, bang, boom, etc) in order to fire the summoned projectiles. She
can only summon 10 at a time in which she must fire them before
summoning more. Projectiles will always appear before her.
Weapons
boost her attack to five, regardless of what weapon it is. She can
summon a max of two of them but they can break with a few strong strikes
from an opponent's weapon (defense of 5).
Shields have a
defense of 8 regardless of width and will always take on a 25 square ft
area. The shields rise from the floor or walls but cannot move on their
own. (20)
After Image – Perhaps her most favorite
skill to use in battle. Falsetto creates a series of illusions that
follow in her wake, creating a sort of after image. Before casting the
spell, Falsetto utters a short monologue (or chant), which changes
depending on the story she's playing, in which her body is enveloped in a
silver aura which will continue to surround her (and her after images)
until the spells wears off. Her after images only appear as she's in
motion. This improves her Evasion by 2 points. The spell lasts for only a
minute in which she cannot use any other abilities (aside from flight).
Using her storyteller ability will immediately cancel her After Image
however casting this spell after an object has been summoned will not
cancel the summoning (She can cast After Image while wielding
materialized weapons or with a wall up but cannot create any more
objects while enveloped with an after image). (1)
Narrator
- Perhaps it is a because she is forever trapped in a story unraveling
in her head, but Falsetto would announce her moves in advance before
doing them. It's a habit which she can't seem to break out of. This
mostly relates to her physical movements and attacks. (i.e. "She lurches
forward, delivering a mighty punch!" Falsetto punches dramatically)
Does not apply to her Storyteller ability. (-5)
Combat Overview:
Falsetto's combat style will differ upon the role she is playing but
overall she enjoys toying with her opponents from a distance before
delivering the final blow with the Cliffhanger (she won't kill with any
other weapon). Because she is constantly speaking and moving her stamina
has developed dramatically over the years but her lack of combat
experience leaves the other areas rather low. She enjoys moving around,
constantly flapping her wings in a kind of skipping motion. However she
can never approve of the main character of her story (herself) dying so
would favor retreat if she needed to.
Strengths – Storyteller, mental prowess (considering she must always tell the story), stamina
Weaknesses – Utterly useless and weak without use of her Storyteller abilities
